What Do You Lose When You Don’t Pre-launch?

Not pre-launching your podcast can have disastrous effects and can be a pretty counterintuitive idea. Without doing the work to understand your audience, you are not likely to see much growth in terms of listeners and downloads if you don’t do the work to pre-launch your podcast properly.

Here is a list of things that you will not know if you don’t pre-launch:

● The pain point of your audience

● The problem that you need to solve

● If your audience understands what your product is

● If you audience is aware of your product

If you do not know these things for sure, launching your podcast is probably not a great idea as you are unlikely to gain anything from your launch. Remember that podcasting is all about marketing and the two work together hand in hand to help your podcast be successful.

So What Do I Need From a Pre-launch?

You will need to have the answers to all of the above bullet points and as well you should know that you can deliver to your target audience.

There are three things that your audience must believe about your show:

1. They must trust you.

2. They must believe your content and believe that you can fix the problem that they have.

3. They must believe that they can gain from listening to your show.

Let’s break these three points down even further.

1. They must trust you.

Your audience needs to be able to believe you. If your content is not well-researched or your voice is not confident, your listeners are not likely to believe what you are saying and want to buy into your podcast.

2. They must believe your content and believe that you can fix the problem that they have.

Your listeners have an issue that they are trying to solve by listening to your podcast. This issue could be simple or it could be complicated. If your podcast is offering to provide motivation, it could be that your ideal listener has a motivation issue. If your podcast is offering to teach people Spanish, it’s likely that your ideal listener needs to learn how to speak Spanish. Marketing your podcast is the way to help people believe that you can fix their issue.

3. They must believe that they can gain from listening to your show.

This point ties in the other two. Between having polished and well-researched content and properly marketing your show, your audience should be satisfied enough to believe this third point. However, if they do not believe one or the other, you may be losing your audience.

Learning all of these things and how to polish these aspects of your podcast will help set your podcast up for success. Ask yourself these questions and refer back to the profile of your ideal listener. This should help you determine if you are able to provide for your listener what they are wanting out of their ideal podcast. I hope that their ideal podcast is yours!
